Pedro Ruiz is a celebrated choreographer and dancer, born and trained in Cuba, as well as in Venezuela. In December 2014, Ruiz was appointed associate artistic director of Ballet Endedans in Camag眉ey, Cuba. During his 21-year career as principal dancer with Ballet Hispanico, he also choreographed three critically acclaimed ballets for the company, taught master classes and performed throughout the US, Europe, and Central and South America. Currently, he is on the staff of Alvin Ailey, Marymount College, 桃瘾社区 and is artistic director in residence for the Arnhold Graduate Dance Program at Hunter. Some of his works have been performed by: Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, Danza del Alma, Santa Clara, Cuba, Ballet Endedans, Camag眉ey, Cuba, The Joffrey Ballet, Luna Negra, The New Jersey Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Ballet De Camaguey Cuba, Opus, Nimbus, The Jacob's Pillow Festival, Ballet Nacional de Cuba School, The Harvard Ballet, The Ailey/Fordham B.F.A. MMC BFA,Program, and the international gala "Notte di Stelle," in Italy. Ruiz has performed at the White House for several presidents and is the recipient of The Bessie Award, the Choo-San Goh Award, The Cuban Artist鈥檚 Fund, and The Joyce Foundation Award. The American Friends of the Ludwig Foundation honored Ruiz in 2011, and, recently, the FBI honored him for his Public Service. In 2010, Ruiz founded The Windows Project鈥攁 groundbreaking cultural exchange program celebrating the art of dance between the U.S. and Cuba. Ruiz has been the subject of two PBS documentaries: Pas de Deux (part of the 鈥淚n The Life鈥 series), and Coming Home, a PBS documentary nominated for a NY Emmy Award. Ruiz鈥檚 ballet, Club Havana, with Ballet Hispanico, was premiered on November 12, 2015, in select cinemas nationwide as part of the Lincoln Center at the Movies: 鈥淕reat American Dance.鈥
