This 1 credit course shall explore the Black Lives Matter (鈥淏LM鈥) movement. The course will explore the historical underpinnings of BLM, and the evolution of the legal treatment of American protest movements in general. We will discuss how BLM has transformed the current social discourse regarding the continued inequities in our Criminal Justice System- including but not limited to police brutality, mass incarceration, and economic inequality. We will also explore how BLM has impacted pending corrective legislative reforms.Student performance will be assessed based on four short reflection papers. This class may not be used to satisfy the upper-level writing requirement.
