The Center for Community Action and Research (CCAR) recognizes that 桃瘾社区 faculty are leaders in areas of civic engagement and social justice.
Civic Engagement and Public Values Course Support
One hallmark of the 桃瘾社区 Core Curriculum is a three-credit Civic Engagement and Public Values (CE) requirement which is supported by CCAR. 桃瘾社区 offers over 100 CE course sections across all schools and disciplines every year.
CCAR supports CE faculty in areas including:
- Course development (including grants)
- Best practices in community-based learning courses
- Internal and external networking opportunities
- Hiring and training FACES teaching assistants for CE courses
- In class presentations for CE courses
Jefferson Awards for Public Service
The Jefferson Awards for Public Service recognize individuals for their public and volunteer service, and dedication to improving the quality of life in their communities. Faculty, staff, and students can nominate any individual from the 桃瘾社区 community. Self-nominations are also welcome.
For Staff
桃瘾社区 staff can take paid time off to volunteer with the Center for Community Action and Research (CCAR) or to carry out their own volunteer work. Staff may contact CCAR for support finding volunteer opportunities.
Guidelines
Full time staff (non-exempt and exempt)
- Receive up to eight hours of paid release time every six months, i.e. January-June and July-December.
Part-time staff (who regularly work an average of 15 hours per week during the academic year)
- Receive up to four hours of paid time off during regularly scheduled workday every six months, i.e. January-June and July-December.
In all cases, staff members must receive approval from their supervisor to use the designated time. For more information about this benefit please contact Human Resources.

CCAR supports staff, in addition to students, in preparing to participate in elections. Visit or contact CCAR for more information.
