Get a JumpStart on College with 桃瘾社区 Academy

桃瘾社区 Academy is a program for incoming first-year students. The program is designed to give students the support and skill sets to be successful college students at 桃瘾社区. You will learn how to be successful in your math and English classes along with learning essential research skills, while also focusing on general habits of mind needed to be successful at 桃瘾社区. As part of the program, you will also be engaging in activities outside of class to learn about 桃瘾社区 community and our campuses in NYC and Pleasantville. The program is completely free of cost and includes housing and meals.

Students must be invited to join and will also get to move-in to student housing on August 26.

What you will be learning

During this 4-day immersion, you will be taking classes with our professors in the English and Math departments and you will be learning essential skills to help you be successful in your first semester at 桃瘾社区 and beyond. Our faculty will bring math and writing alive for you covering topics in genre, voice, and medium, thinking about mathematical mindsets, confidence, persistence, problem solving, critical thinking, and academic success. You will come away with these important skills that you can use, not only in your English and Math general education classes, but all of your classes during your time at 桃瘾社区.

There will also be a variety of social activities and excursions that will give you an opportunity to begin to connect to the 桃瘾社区 community and our campuses in NYC and Pleasantville.

Grant Crawford

WCNYC Coordinator & Adjunct Professor

Grant Crawford is the coordinator for writing services and a lecturer of English and modern language. His research and teaching interests include travel writing, film criticism, new media, and composition & rhetoric.

Phil Choong

Director of Composition/ESL

Dr. Choong is the Director of Composition/ESL and provides teacher development and training, curriculum and test design, and program administration. He received his EdD and MA from Teachers College, Columbia University and his BA from the University of Pennsylvania in English literature.

Gabe Levine-Justicia

Professor/Lecturer

Professor Levine-Justicia is interdisciplinary professor and interim chair of the Latina/o Studies program. He teaches Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, Cultural Studies, and Latina/o Communities and Critical Writing. He is also completing his PhD in Composition and Applied Linguistics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
