Biography

Faculty Bio

I received my PhD from Pennsylvania State University and am an associate professor of French and Chinese. My research focuses on women’s writings in Nineteenth-Century France, with an emphasis on representations of “deviance” in politically and socially constructed categories such as gender, race, class and disability. My reading of women’s literature combines social-cultural reflections and textual analysis. Through the lens of gender, I examine women writers’ creation conditions and their writing strategies, which implies a transgression of the gender constraints in a patriarchy society. My essays have appeared in Nineteen-Century French Studies, French Forum, and Women in French.
Other than the literature studies, I am also a translator who has translated a variety of literary texts from French/English to Chinese. My professional goals are to continue my work on nineteenth-century literature, gender and translation studies in an environment that balances significant research with opportunities to work closely with undergraduate students who share an interest in these domains.
