Philomena has been teaching English for the past six years in NYC colleges including La Guardia Community College and Fordham University. Before that she graduated from 桃瘾社区鈥檚 Seidenberg School Of Computer Science and Information Systems, and later received her Master鈥檚 in Adult TESOL from Hunter College.

Before focusing on education, she worked in research and administrative roles in finance companies and nonprofit organizations.

Philomena is from Ireland originally and has been living in New York City for 20 years. Prior to that she lived in the UK and Germany, and the Czech Republic where she taught English.

She believes that learning and teaching are collaborative, reciprocal, and mutually beneficial processes that we, the students and the teacher, make possible together. As a teacher, she believes that teaching and learning depend on asking questions and having group discussions. To that end, she emphasizes discussion-based learning, and establishes her classroom as a space where open dialogue is encouraged.

She loves to practice yoga, and attend movies, concerts and theater at NYC鈥檚 parks and piers.
