Henry Chan

Mr. Chan graduated with a business degree from the American University and earned his Juris Doctor degree from St. John鈥檚 University School of Law. Mr. Chan is a member of the New York and New Jersey bars and has been admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, United District Courts for the Eastern, Southern, and Northern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey. Mr. Chan also served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Karla Moskowitz of New York State Supreme Court 鈥 Commercial Division, New York County.
Mr. Chan has been retained by clients facing a wide variety of legal issues, including construction law and related litigation, commercial law and related litigation, insurance coverage disputes, commercial contracts disputes of all kinds, and appellate work. Mr. Chan represents all players in the construction industry, including New York State government agencies, sureties, construction managers, general contractors, construction inspectors, contractors, subcontractors, various trades, etc., in the areas of surety indemnity agreements, bid protests issues, termination for convenience issues, termination for cause issues, public improvement liens, mechanic鈥檚 liens, contract review/disputes, payment bond claims, performance bond claims, Miller Act, insurance coverage disputes, indemnification issues, prevailing wage issues, delay claims, bad faith issues, Labor Law 搂搂 200, 240, 241, premise liability, MWBE/DBE regulations, and appellate practice involving both private and public improvement construction projects.
Mr. Chan writes a weekly legal column for the Minority Commerce Weekly and is a regular guest speaker for the Regional Alliance for Small Contractors, 桃瘾社区, and New Jersey Institution of Technology covering construction and commercial legal issues for businesses. Mr. Chan is also a Court Appointed Referee for the New York State Supreme Court and a volunteer attorney for the New York City Civil Court鈥檚 鈥淰olunteer Lawyers Project.鈥
Mr. Chan is a founding member of the Asian MWBE Association and regularly testifies before the New York City Council to increase the utilization of Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE). Mr. Chan is also a member of the New York County Lawyers鈥 Association, New York State Bar Association, and Asian American Bar Association of New York. Mr. Chan is fluent in Chinese Cantonese and Mandarin.
